Marco first approached the financial markets in the early 2000s while studying at university. At the time, he was working with his grandfather Pietro, a retired businessman, helping with the management of the family wealth through proprietary software created for the screening of bonds and shares.

“Pietro, with his extraordinary ability to do business, Marco says, was my first true mentor. The management of the family wealth, is still one of my roles.”

Marco has been a full-time private trader since 2005, working with the futures markets as well as stocks.

Looking for new and reliable approaches to trading, Marco read books and attended seminars from some of the world’s most well-known traders. He became fascinated by the quantitative approach to markets and it became the focus of his work. Marco soon started to create automatic trading systems on the main index and commodity futures.

Since 2011, Marco’s work as a private trader has been based exclusively on automated strategies, using a systematic approach to trading.

In 2015, Marco won 1st Place in the Italian Investment & Trading Cup (ITCUP) – Trading Systems Section, with a 33.15% net return in three months. The same year, his first book was published, “Men of Trading – Life and Markets Stories of Two Professional Traders” (Edoardo Varini Publishing, 2015), co-written with Fabrizio Bocca.

In 2017, Marco began his work as an educator with Giovanni Trombetta of Gandalf Project. Together the two created “Automated Trading as a Business”, a training course intended for both retail and institutional clients.

Today, Marco works with Luca Ronzan, who he says is also a highly experienced Italian trader.

“Luca is my mentor, and we continue to develop new ideas to approach the markets, Marco says. We use a mix of reversal and trend-following systems working with stocks and futures.”

Marco’s and Luca’s algorithms are very simple, Marco says – few filters and conditions to limit the overfitting of strategies, with a specific focus on the drawdown and the risk/return ratio. They prefer longevity rather than profitability of strategies, Marco says.

Other experienced traders and investors Marco has collaborated in the development of new strategies with are Fabio Esposti, Luca Giusti and Stefano Serafini to name a few, he says.

Marco’s motto – “The study of financial markets is a journey without a point of arrival. I don’t know for sure what is right to do, but thanks to the experience I’ve accumulated over 20 years, I am sure I understand what is wrong”.
